Use Data Queries in Excel

In an Excel document, you can add predefined data queries in the same workspace to use as the data source for variables. This allows you to reference data from external sources in your reports, and ensures your reports can get live data.

Note: A user with the Viewer license type cannot use the Data Query feature of the JP DM add-in. See User Permissions for more information.

Insert Data Queries

  1. Open the Excel document from the Disclosure Management website.
  2. Select the worksheet where you want to add the data query. You can insert it in an existing worksheet or a new one.
  3. On the ribbon, select the JP DM tab and click Insert Data Query.
  4. Type the email address of your insightsoftware account in the Login window if it prompts and click Continue.
  5. JP DM displays the Insert Data Queries panel, showing the data queries that have been created in the same workspace.

  6. Locate the data query you need and click Insert. You can use the Search box to search for a data query.
  7. If the data query references query variables, specify the variable values and click Continue.

    Specify Query Variable Value

  8. Specify the name range of the data query or apply the default one. The name is not case sensitive.

    Edit Data Query Properties

Naming rules for a valid name range:

    • Must begin with a letter, underscore (_), or backslash (\).
    • Can only include letters, numbers, and underscores.
    • Cannot be the same as a cell reference (e.g. A1, B2, Z100).
    • Maximum length: 255 characters.
  9. Click Insert. The data query is added in the specified worksheet and JP DM locks the worksheet thereupon. You can no longer edit the worksheet but insert data queries to it.

Manage Data Queries

  1. With the Excel document open, click JP DM > Show Data Queries on the ribbon. JP DM displays the Data Queries panel, showing the data queries you have inserted in the document.

    • Click the ellipsis and select Delete to remove the data query from the document.
    • Click the Filters(x) button to edit the variable values if it references query variables.
  4. To refresh all the data queries at a time, click Refresh all at the bottom of the panel.

Refresh Data Queries

You can use the Refresh Data Queries command in the JP DM tab on the ribbon to update all the data queries you have added into an Excel document at any time, to ensure the data queries contain the latest data from your source systems.
